Jobs in Financial Services

Boston’s financial services firms increasingly demand a college degree as the preferred minimum requirement for employment. At the same time, financial services firms are experiencing difficulty recruiting college graduates from other regions to stay in Greater Boston, a high cost region.
Firms want a return on the investments they make in introducing BPS students to careers through summer jobs, school year internships, and career exploration activities. Between 2000 and 2005, the share of employees in the financial services industry with a high school diploma or less dropped from 14% to 7%, while the share of employees who are college graduates increased from 66% to 77%. The PIC recruits students who have succeeded in financial services sector summer jobs during high school and who plan to major in a related area at a local college. The goal is to develop a pipeline of talent and diversity to meet the staffing needs of financial services employers in the Boston area.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Blue Cross Blue Shield are the leading the employer effort.
