Governor Patrick signs dropout legislation

On August 14, Governor Deval Patrick signed dropout prevention and recovery legislation. The bill establishes a commission of state officials, legislators and others to recommend a goal and timetable for reducing the dropout rate in the Commonwealth. The Commission must make recommendations to the legislature by May 15, 2009. Read the formatted bill. Also, see the signed version.

WBUR Special on High School Graduation

This hour-long audio segment, Getting to Graduation, aired on June 6 on WBUR's Radio Boston program with host David Boeri. The piece profiles a valedictorian and a recovered dropout, as well as comments from Superintendent Carol Johnson, Dr. Margaret Bledsoe, Charlestown High School headmaster, and Marvin Moore, PIC dropout outreach and recovery specialist. PIC on WCVB Channel 5

This clip features the work of PIC career specialist Shawn Brown and three students he placed at Alleyne Property Management. The coverage is from Governor Deval Patrick’s May 13 press conference on YouthWorks, a state source of student wages administered by the Commonwealth Corporation.

PIC Honors "Achievers"

At its May 7 annual meeting, the Boston Private Industry Council honored 22 "PIC Achievers." These awards are given to those who exemplify the PIC's mission of connecting the youth and adults of Boston to the mainstream economy through education and employment.
